Optimist Club of Jasper Outstanding Law Enforcement Award
Summary: Given for exceptional achievement in any law enforcement endeavor, either on duty or off-duty,who has consistently demonstrated exceptional involvement, extraordinary support, and outstanding initiativein advancing local law enforcement especially in the area of juvenile and education programs. This personshould demonstrate the values of Optimism caring, courage, equity, integrity, openness, respect, transparency and trustworthiness.
Our 2024 Optimist Club of Jasper Outstanding Law Enforcement Award goes to Detective Sergeant Greg Brescher.
The 2024 recipient of this award (per nomination by Donna Mathies)
• Has helped coordinate a sex/abuse Hot Line for Dubois County
• Is active in the Ireland Lions Club
• Is a loving family man with 3 children and his wife
• 16 years on police force and recently promoted to Detective/Seargent
• Honest and Fair
• Has a Critter Gitter Business that traps unwanted animals and takes them to a safe environment to release
Detective Sergeant Brescher has served with the Jasper Police Department as a dispatcher and auxiliary from 2008-2013 and as a patrolman from 2013-2018. In 2018 he was assigned to the Detective division. In addition to his duties of patrol, he is a car seat technician, CVSA examiner, Bike Patrol, Field Training Officer, ILEA Honor graduate and Honor Guard officiate.
He is a member of the local Fraternal Order of Police and Multi-Disciplinary Team member, past member of the Emergency Response Team. He graduated from Vincennes University with an associate degree in Conservation Law Enforcement.
April Brescher (wife of Detective Sergeant Greg) was present to receive the reward for him in his absence on a previously scheduled recreational trip. It was very appropriate for April to receive, as this yearly dinner is not only for the law enforcement personnel, but their spouses and significant others who provide them so much care and support.
