Tri-Star Basketball March 4th 2026

Get your kids involved in a fun and skill-building event March 4th! The Optimist Club of Jasper is proud to bring the Annual Tri-Star Basketball Contest to our community. This is a fantastic opportunity for young athletes to build self-esteem, develop basketball skills, and meet new friends!

  • WHEN:  Wednesday, March 4th

  • WHERE:  Jasper High School Auxiliary Gym

  • TIME: Doors open at 5:40 for warm ups - Contest Start at 6:00 p.m.

What is the Tri-Star Basketball Contest?

The Tri-Star Basketball Contest focuses on three fundamental basketball skills:

  • Passing

  • Shooting

  • Dribbling

Young athletes, ages 8 to 13, will have the opportunity to showcase their abilities and be evaluated in their age and gender groups. The contest is designed to be fun, supportive, and a great way for children to challenge themselves in a friendly competition!

How to Participate

  • Registration: Simply complete the entry form and bring it to the gym on the day of the contest.

  • No Entry Fee: The contest is free to enter.

  • What to Bring: Participants are encouraged to bring their own basketball to warm up before the event.

  • Registration Deadline: All participants should register by 5:50 p.m. on March 4th. 

Event Schedule and Format

The event consists of three skill challenges:

  1. Passing Skill 
    Participants will be allowed six attempts, three bounces and three chest or overhead passes at a designated target from an assigned distance. Participant will be allowed one step toward passing line and must not touch or go over it. 

    • Age Groups: 8–13

    • Target Distance: 12–18 feet, depending on age group.

  2. Dribbling Skill 
    Each participant will attempt to dribble through four cones and return through course as quickly as possible. Three points will be deducted from a base score of 75 points for each second of elapsed time. For example, if a participant takes 20 seconds to complete the participant's score is 15. (75-(3 X 20) = 15). 

  3. Shooting Skill
    Participants will be allowed six attempts, four free throw attempts at varying distance according to age, and two attempts from anywhere on the court outside of the key area. Attempt would be invalidated if a participant steps on or over the assigned free throw line.  

    • Age Groups: 8–13

    • Shooting Distances: Ranges from 9 feet to 15 feet, depending on age.

Awards and Prizes

 Special prizes will be awarded to the top three scorers in each age and gender group. The 1st place winners in each age/gender group will have the chance to advance to the District Contest in Greensburg, IN.
