Avenue of Flags 2023 Kick-Off and Celebration

  Avenue of Flags 2023 Kick-Off and Celebration was held on Monday, April 17th. Attendees enjoyed refreshments and a tremendous buffet of pecan chicken, roast beef and all of the trimmings.

Mayor Vonderheide attended to offer his thanks to the Optimist Club for all we do and specifically for the patriotism shown with the Avenue of Flags program.

Kent Reyling spoke about the impact that this program has on our club and the great things that we are doing with the funds raised. 

Kent presented a very special service award to member Treva Heise who has served as out Avenue of Flags administrator for many years and who has decided to “retired” this year, turning it over to our new administrator Mary Reyling.  THANK YOU TREVA FOR ALL YOU HAVE DONE. 

Justin Dwyer spoke about the importance of getting new members to help us to further expand our service and impact on the community as well as the social events we will be holding monthly.  Next one will be at his house on April 29 (Chili and Cocktails)

Mike Shappard discussed steps for a successful year with the Flags and getting information on shirts, hats and vests for helpers to wear to promote the program and for safety. 

An open discussion for feedback was very helpful with several members offering great suggestions on what we can do better.
