Optimist Club of Jasper High School Youth of the Month - February 2023

The Optimist Club of Jasper Youth of the Month is a monthly recognition program for students in Jasper Middle and High Schools, recognizing students from each school, for their positive outlook and contribution to the community.

The High School Optimist Club of Jasper Youth of the Month for February is Ashley Soni. Ashley is the daughter of Cristina Castañeda Cortez. She is a Junior at Jasper High School. Ashley is a member of Young Latinos United Club and is involved in Soccer, Dance, and Weightlifting. When asked about her future, Ashley stated “For a while I didn’t know what I wanted to do with my life. Eventually, I found out I had love and passion for cosmetology and fitness. I am thrilled to begin my cosmetology journey after graduating JHS and in becoming a fitness influencer. My goal is to help those who struggle with confidence, self love, eating disorder, etc.”The teacher that nominated Ashley stated “Ashley always comes in with a great attitude. Even when facing personal obstacles she comes in hoping to create a positiveenvironment for herself, her peers, and her educators. She is also an asset who works to create equal opportunity for all students as she often helps translate for Spanish speakers and their parents. She is also a great leader for the Young Latinos organization. I've also seen her strive to become the best person she can be outside of the classroom where she is pushing herself and her personal growth. Really, she is just a great young woman who often flies under the radar, but is truly a great example of a well-rounded and optimistic JHS student.”
